• Organize your important documents, such as birth certificates, tax information, moving estimates, insurance documentation, and school records, and keep them with you at the time of your move.
• Make lists by either downloading a moving checklist or keeping a notebook handy to jot down the location of items or important information that may come up during your move.
• Pack ahead of time so that on moving day you can help direct the movers instead of raking items into boxes at the last minute.
• Stock up on supplies – packing tape, plastic bags, extra boxes, packing paper or bubble wrap for valuables – so that you can avoid the stop and start of running out to purchase necessary items at the last minute.
• Color-coordinate your boxes for each room so that when you arrive to your destination, your boxes are ready to be unloaded where they belong.
• Have cleaning supplies on hand to clean as boxes and furniture are moved out of your home.  You can also use the cleaning supplies to prepare your new home before things arrive.
• Enlist the help of friends or family members, even if you do hire movers.  Having an extra hand to prepare or execute your move will bring order to the chaos.
• Pamper yourself.  Moving can be tiring and stressful, so treat yourself to frequent breaks while packing and make sure you snack and relax often.
• Keep a sense of humor and a good attitude.  Remember that you do not have to move every day for the rest of your life, and guess what?  It will end.  Keeping a light-hearted attitude will make your move more enjoyable and reduce your stress level so that you can focus your energy on more important matters – like where to put your favorite photo or how you will plan your housewarming party!
